The Nellie McClung Foundation is pleased to welcome newly elected Board Member Connie Yunyk to its Board of Directors.
Connie started her teaching career in the River East School Division as a French immersion specialist. In the late 90’s she went back to her alma mater St. Mary’s Academy and retired in the summer of 2021. She began her career as a classroom teacher, also served as vice-principal, principal and was appointed as the first non-religious CEO and President in 2014 until her retirement. As an alumna and mother of an SMA alumna, Connie served the SMA community with pride and gratitude; grateful for the students, parents, board members, faculty and staff and especially the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, all who played pivotal roles as mentors and supporters along the way! Currently, Connie has returned to her school roots in the River East-Transcona School Division as a part-time guidance counsellor in a French-immersion High School.
Although Connie loves to travel and experiencing other cultures and foods, she considers herself a true prairie girl, born and raised in Winnipeg! As a first generation Canadian with deep Italian roots, she gained an appreciation at an early age about the value of hard work, kindness and social justice.
Connie is married, has two children and two grandsons who are centre of her universe and bring her an abundance of joy, hope and light every day!
"Becoming a member of the Nellie McClung Foundation Board and meeting other like-minded women has been a welcome association at this point in her life!" says Connie.
Welcome Connie!
